The 5.6L V8 engine, making 317 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque, is standard across the line. The engine has an aluminum block with cast-iron liners, molybdenum-coated pistons, a forged steel crankshaft, and a heavy-duty cooling system for durability; it's a Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) and can run on blends of ethanol and gasoline up to 85 percent ethanol (E85). The V8 is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission that was designed for regular tow duty. All Titan models are offered with either rear- or four-wheel drive; the 4WD system uses an electronically controlled part-time transfer case and has a low range.
King Cab models have Wide-Open rear doors that open nearly 180 degrees for improved access to the backseat area, along with flip-up rear seat cushions for expanding cargo space, while crew cab models have four full-size doors, with rear door storage bins and a steeper, more comfortable backrest angle. Two different interior configurations are offered. There's a standard bench seat with column shifter and seating for six, or an optional Captain's Chair Package brings two front bucket seats and a large center console and floor shifts, with seating for five. The center console that's included comes with a divider system to suit a number of different storage needs and has space for hanging file folders or a laptop.
Titan's box was designed to carry 4x8 plywood sheets easily between the wheel housings. The available Utili-track system brings movable utility cleats, each capable of securing 200 pounds, that can be moved within bed channels to help secure small but heavy items, such as engines. Modular storage units and accessories are available for bikes, kayaks, and other common items.
There's also a useful bedside storage compartment behind the rear driver's side wheel, designed to hold gloves, chains, flares, a first-aid kit, or even a small tool box.
Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution are standard on the Titan, along with front active head restraints, but front seat-mounted side air bags and roof-mounted supplemental side-curtain bags for outboard occupants are optional.
Base XE models come with a bit more than other base pickups; they include air conditioning, cruise control, and a six-speaker CD sound system. SE models add alloy wheels, power heated mirrors, front captain's chairs, keyless entry, power windows and locks, an overhead console, and a six-disc changer.
The PRO-4X is only available with 4WD and brings an off-road look, with unique gauges, embroidered seats with red stitching, and a leather-trimmed, red-stitched shift knob and steering wheel. To match the look, there's a host of off-road oriented equipment, including Rancho shock absorbers, an electronic locking rear differential, and unique 18-inch off-road alloy wheels with all-terrain tires.
At the top of the range is the luxurious LE model, which adds a brake limited-slip differential, 20-inch alloy wheels, the Utili-trak system, power leather captain's chairs, leather trim, an eight-speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system with XM satellite radio, Bluetooth hands-free system, and dual-zone automatic climate control, among other extras. Noteworthy options include an in-dash navigation system and a towing package.
